Reviews for Songbird:
"Sophie Black easily conjures up an ambiance that is reminiscent of those eighties fantasy staples Legend and Labyrinth.”
(We Are Cult)
“Sophie Black demonstrates a skill for the craft of filmmaking and has created an artistic short with a raft of narrative to keep an audience captivated. With a selection of thematic and emotional beats, Songbird takes flight with a magical trip from the mic stand to wonderland."

Fantasy short, starring (and featuring original songs by) Janet Devlin. Shortlisted for Creative England iShorts funding. Filmed over the course of five days, with a mix of exterior and interior locations - as well as VFX - Sophie Black's directorial approach to this film not only homaged the fairytales and fantasy films of her childhood, but also showcased the beautiful landscapes of Derbyshire and Nottingham.
The film (which had its music mastered at none other than Abbey Road Studios) screened at numerous film festivals around the world, and won 26 awards, including 'Best Direction' for Sophie at the Colorado International SciFi & Fantasy Film Festival. The film also had a strong online following around the time of its production, successfully raising a £16,000 budget through crowdfunding.
